Public Tender: 300 MVA for the National Electricity Grid

The Ministry of Environment and Energy will launch a public tender in the last four months of 2025 to award 300 MVA of capacity to the national electricity grid, announced the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG). The procedure is exclusively for renewable energy projects with integrated storage systems (BESS), strengthening the resilience and stability of the electricity system amid growing renewables integration.
Context of the energy transition
- The PNEC 2030 sets a target of cutting GHG emissions by 55% and integrating 80% renewable electricity by 2030.
- The Carbon Neutrality Roadmap 2050 (RNC 2050) foresees full decarbonisation of the power sector by 2040.
- The Anti-Blackout Package, launched in 2025, mobilises EUR 400 million across 31 measures to strengthen grid resilience.
By prioritising projects with associated storage, the Government aims to guarantee supply security and economically enhance the value of renewable energy, positioning Portugal among European leaders in large-scale storage technology adoption.
