Clean Energy: 112 Applications Funded by the Environmental Fund
Portugal's Environmental Fund approved 112 applications supporting Renewable Energy Communities and Collective Self-Consumption, with €19.1 million in funding under the PRR, aiming to add around 93 MW of installed renewable capacity.
The Environmental Fund approved 112 applications supporting Renewable Energy Communities (CER) and Collective Self-Consumption (ACC), with total funding of €19.1 million under Component C13 – Energy Efficiency of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The goal is to add roughly 93 megawatts (MW) of installed renewable capacity, mainly through solar PV systems, with an estimated average 30% reduction in primary energy consumption for the buildings covered.
Renewable Energy Communities and Collective Self-Consumption
CERs allow citizens, businesses and municipalities to become co-producers and consumers of energy from sources such as solar, wind or biomass; Decree-Law No. 15/2022, of 14 January, simplified their licensing and set-up. ACC, in turn, allows multiple users to share electricity produced locally, typically via a shared PV installation, promoting bill savings and energy inclusion for those without their own physical space to generate power.
