Go-To Areas: How They Accelerate Renewables in Portugal
What the Green Map’s Go-To Areas are and how they can simplify renewable-project permitting.
Go-To Areas, or renewable-energy acceleration areas, stem from the revised Renewable Energy Directive (RED III). In Portugal, the Green Map identifies areas with lower environmental and territorial sensitivity where an accelerated permitting regime can apply.
What changes for developers
Environmental assessment takes place upstream, at territorial level, giving developers greater predictability over time, risk and cost. Easements, compatibility with municipal plans and other local constraints nevertheless remain relevant.
