The Government announced the results of the public tender to support energy storage, as part of the energy transition and the decarbonisation of the economy. The programme, with total funding of €100 million, will finance 41 projects spread across various regions of the country, aiming to strengthen the resilience of the national electricity system through the efficient integration of renewable sources such as solar and wind.

PRR Framework and Targets

The initiative responds to commitments under the National Energy and Climate Plan 2030 (PNEC 2030), the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and the Carbon Neutrality Roadmap 2050. Under Component C13 – Energy Efficiency of the PRR, the tender contributes to installing at least 255 MW of storage capacity by 2026 and to an annual reduction of over 50,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent.

  • Beneficiaries: legal entities with an economic activity of producing electricity from renewable sources.
  • Eligible types: electrochemical storage (lithium-ion batteries, flow batteries), hybrid solar-plus-battery solutions, and thermal or mechanical storage.
  • Funding: non-repayable grant, covering up to 75% of the total eligible project cost.
  • Deadline: operations must be completed within three years of signing the funding contract, by the end of 2026.
