Environmental Major Constraints Study for a Battery Storage System (BESS) — Torres Vedras, Oeste Region

Environmental major constraints study for a BESS project in Torres Vedras, Oeste region.

StartSimple prepared an Environmental Major Constraints Study for a battery storage (BESS) project located in Torres Vedras, in the Oeste region of the Lisbon district, aiming to identify and characterise the environmental and territorial constraints relevant to the infrastructure's installation. The work analysed the National Agricultural Reserve (RAN), the National Ecological Reserve (REN), classified areas, ecological corridors, watercourses, administrative easements and existing infrastructure, using mapping and Geographic Information System (GIS) methodologies.

The study formed an essential basis for the project's licensing and planning, guiding the developer on the most sensitive areas and allowing mitigation measures to be anticipated.

Project highlights

  • Identification of the most environmentally sensitive areas
  • Analysis of RAN, REN, ecological corridors and easements
  • Mapping and GIS methodologies applied to the territory
