New Agency for Energy and Geology (AGE): What Changes in 2026?
Approved by the Council of Ministers on November 28, 2025, the AGE absorbs functions from LNEG and ADENE to accelerate the licensing of strategic projects.
The Agency for Energy and Geology (AGE), approved by the Council of Ministers on November 28, 2025, marks a deep restructuring of the energy and geological resources sector, absorbing functions from LNEG and ADENE to end institutional fragmentation.
Three priority missions
- Licensing acceleration: replaces the "cascade" of opinions between DGEG, APA and LNEG with integrated commissions, focused on offshore wind and green hydrogen.
- Critical resource mapping: intensifies prospecting for lithium and other strategic battery minerals.
- PNEC 2030 monitoring: tracks compliance with national energy and climate targets in real time.
LNEG will now focus exclusively on basic scientific research, while ADENE retains its role in awareness and certification, transferring public policy execution to the AGE. The agency will also be responsible for managing the renewables "Green Map".
The implementation roadmap includes legal formalization between January and June 2026, physical integration of teams (DGEG, LNEG, ADENE, ENSE) starting in September 2026, and full completion of the merger, with unified IT systems, by June 2027.
